THE CONSOLE

Many will be familiar with the Solid State Logic brand and the console itself was supplied by AES Pro Audio Ltd who specialise in sourcing classic analogue recording desks, and together with some custom design features specified by us, making this a truly unique one-off example, the desk was given a complete overhaul.  By stripping down, cleaning, repairing and in some cases remanufacturing particular components, each composite part of the console has been refurbished extensively over the course of about a year in conjunction with GJC designs and Peter Higgs, before being rebuilt and commissioned at Runway in March 2023.  

 

The SSL 4000 series was a game changer in terms of work flow and sonic capabilities from it’s conception in the late 1970’s, and Solid State logic would go on to produce numbers well into the thousands over the following 20+ years.  Together with a complete overhaul of the wiring in the studio, and the implementation of a few key features to fit this classic desk into a modern setup, we’re proud to say it’s a real masterpiece of engineering and it’s such a joy to work on what’s basically the closest thing possible to a “New” SSL 4k.

 

In addition to the console, we’ve recently added a full dedicated Dante network across all six of our rooms and spaces allowing Audio over IP connectivity throughout the building which is bringing us firmly in line with all major recording facilities. The scalability of the system provides scope for many applications including full multitrack recording of rehearsals, Post production options for podcasts, and improving the broadcasted audio of Live Streams.
